Ascent Trip Report

We used this address to get to the trial head:

129-149 Rindge State Rd Ashburnham, MA 01430

Peishan, Evey, Wolfgang, Sugar and I started up the trail around 10:40am. This time up we stayed on the main trail and did not take a right on the junction. We made it to the Wapack trail in good time and came to the three clearings marking the top of Nutting Hill. My family rested on Nutting hill at the third Cairn. I went back to look for the unmarked trail to Nutting Hill Northeast slope. I did not see the trail heading east so I started bushwhacking and as I came to the first clearing I found the trail. I followed it around a couple turns and found the stone wall referenced in other trip reports. I then found the blue marker that is the agreed upon highpoint about 10 feet to the north along the stone walk. It is very easy to find. There is some trash strewn about in the leaves by the highpoint. I took some pictures and then went back to get my family.
We continued on up Watatic. We arrived on top of Watatic at 11:44am. We took pictures and continued on over to East Watatic which has better views. We ate lunch are relaxed. We started back toward Nutting Hill at 12:46pm. We arrived on Nutting Hill peak around 1:30 and I built a small cairn marking the start of the trial to the Middlesex country highpoint. You will find this cairn about ~50 before the first clearing heading south on the Wapack trail towards Nutting Hill Peak. If you enter the first clearing you have gone too far.
The trial is easy to miss, but once you are on the trail it is easy to follow. After building the small cairn my family and I walked the ~100 meter to the rock wall and took pictures at the county highpoint. This was Wolfgang, Sugar and my 11th MA county highpoint. We then made our way back down to our car arriving at 2:01pm.
The views on Watatic and East Watatic are great. Nutting Hill and the county highpoint have no views.
