Ascent Trip ReportBackpacked up Meysan Lake trail to Meysan Lake on Friday. Saw only one person. Dip in lake was refreshing. Led with Phil Bates and Peter. Plan was to do LeConte and then traverse to Corcoran and back. There was snow in gully (in the sun!) that prevented safe passage, so we climbed Mallory instead. Enjoyed the class 3 summit block with Mt Whitney in background. We considered continuing north to Irvine, but didn't have the beta on the ridge route so would have had to descend Mallory's east ridge into bowl, then climb Irvine, then descend from north side of Irvine to Camp Lake, then climb back to Meysan Lake (our camp). We didn't have enough water for everyone to do this, so we returned to camp from Mallory, enjoyed another quick dip in the lake, and had a relaxing time hanging out until we retired to our tents. Backpacked down the next day. Over 60 switchbacks!!! Had a great lunch at the Alabama Hills cafe.
