Ascent Trip ReportMy goal for this day hike was to complete the Presidential Range Traverse in a day going as light and fast as was comfortable. The temps were cool which was good but the footing was less than optimal as the area received heavy rainfall 2 days before and the trails below treeline were extremely damp and slippery. I fell 3 times along the way but no harm other than a few scratches. Only hold up came on top of Washington when I had to wait in the food line for my hot dogs and coke. Otherwise I ate 4 GUs and a couple of energy bars over the ~23 mile traverse, and drank 2 quarts of watered downed Powerade and 2 quarts of water. Started with 1 liter of liquid in my hydration bladder and refilled at Mizpah Hut, summit of Washington, and at Madison Hut. Only other stop was on Daniel Webster Trail on final descent for a Kind Bar when I felt my energy draining. Traverse took 11 hours, 10 minutes. Fun day but I prefer stopping to smell the flowers. |
