Spruce Fire Tower
Via Spruce Mtn trail
No other cars at the parking area as Gudrun and I started up the trail at 12:05pm. We got messed up a couple of time trying to locate the trail. At one jct we started to follow a boundary marking instead of the trail. We went back to try to find the trail, but went too far back and started following a dried brook. Eventually we found the correct trail and noticed that there are often small cairns marking the way. Much of the trail follows what looks like old logging roads much of it in the sun which today is very hot and it is humid too. The final portion is in the woods which is quite a relief to get out of the direct sun. We also saw bike tracks along the way. I can understand mountain biking the lower sections, but I am surprised to see the tracks in the upper part of the trail! We reached the tower at 1:10 pm and as we knew the peak was treed and the tower is closed so we just took a few minutes to have some lunch and cool down in the shade. Although the tower is closed, it doesn’t look like it is in terrible shape. I wonder if there is a “friends of Spruce Tower” to help get this one back open!
We headed back down at 1:25pm and now that we knew where the trail is, we quickly reached the car at 2:05pm.
