Ascent Trip ReportOne last peak to nab for the day. I had little time left in order to get to the hotel in time for check in. Mt. Love is barely a peak and on no lists but this one is #15 on the TN 4,500 threshold list so i left the parking area at Clingman's Dome and looked for a way to get on to the AT nearby. I made the mistake of parking at the large paved lot with about 12 spaces where the AT shows just west of the parkway on the map and thought I could bushwhack down and find it. Big mistake! The briers ate me alive.I thus, drove further north on the parkway and saw a sign that said AT. It was not a parking lot but a turnout that accommodates perhaps 2 to 3 cars. It is where the Fox Ridge Trail and AT join.
Parking here, I was able to find the AT and run on up to the obvious peak and back within 30 minutes. I met two section hikers and talked briefly. I recall no views or anything interesting. This last peak (number 4 for the day) just helped me complete a 6 mile 2000 foot gain day hike day. I nice warm up for tomorrow. This was the easiest peak to grab from this parking area. |
