Ascent Trip ReportI followed Shannon Dillmore's directions from the small parking area for the Helm's Woods Nature Preserve (0.3 mi on Helm Road past Roundstone Lane). There were only a few puddles to avoid, and the only bushwhack was a hundred feet of woods and a couple hundred yards through the tall grass/shrubs under the power lines. The high point appears to be on a well-mowed lawn on a bump adjacent to the grass shrubs, but far enough away from any houses and the guy mowing the lawn across the street, so that no one interrupted us from taking a couple hero shots on top and going back the way we came. IAC, given its location within a few yards of the natural vegetation and much closer to a power tower than a house , I wouldn't be surprised if the high point was in the nature preserve or the power line right of way. BTW, it's best to take the trail a bit past the high point before turning left to avoid a water-filled ditch. Also, the mosquitos were frequent fliers this time of year, but this was an few-and-far-between opportunity to bag my county of origin, so I put up with a few bites and sweated in long sleeves and pants. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant walk.
