Ascent Trip Report

Eight members of my Thursday hiking club ascended Gold Hill today. The weather looked a little threatening as we left, but storms and clouds held off. The route ascends steeply for less than a mile to the intersection with the Long Canyon Trail. The next stretch--a bit less than two miles ascends gradually with easy footing along the stream to a meadow on the left. A short steep section--about a half mile ascends at close to a 20% grade to another meadow. Thereafter it ascends more gradually around a dogleg and up to an open area near tree line. At roughly 12,000 feet you hit a trail intersection. From there it's another 40 minutes or so across tundra to the peak.
