Ascent Trip ReportSki traverse (1996?) with David Salinger, Brigid Sterling, and Bruce Sterling. Started on the North Sister, and ascended to near summit on skis (~9700 or so feet), but high winds and terrible snow conditions turned us back from summitting (terrible sastrugi and rotten, hollow and icy snow, very high winds blowing us over). We traversed to Middle and South Sisters, and skied from the summits of both peaks, then we descended southerly to a long, flat area covered in the largest sun cups we ever experienced, our skis bridging and flexing across large, icy bowls. We made our way to Broken Top summit, then skied out and waited at the trail head for Cindy to pick us up. This was a multi-day trip. Great ski tour. Will check on dates and slides from trip to confirm dates. |
