Ascent Trip ReportWith David Salinger. We hiked up Boulder Creek trail to Boulder Pass and set up camp at Boulder Pass. Okay water, but many backcountry horsemen/women have camped at this high tarn. We did not treat/filter the water (we never do), and survived. On 09/26/2009 we descended from Boulder Pass ~2100' to Napeequa river ford; forded river and followed trail to Louis Creek; 100 yards past creek ascended grassy slopes towards top of waterfall and entered tunnel system (climber's path) through slide alder; entered grassy slopes above and reached the high route to High Pass faint trail; took a right and ascended to Louis Creek basin below the summits of Buck; ascended northeasterly towards the south summit; realized we were too far south and climbed down and around to pocket glacier (river running on the glacier that waterfalled into a crevasse...stunning!); gale-force winds on the ridges, could barely stand up!; crossed low-angle but absolutely icy glacier (no crampons or ice axe...left down in Louis creek basin at 6,800' because we couldn't see the snow / ice from down there) and ascended to north summit, descended, crossed glacier to notch between middle and south, then summitted middle summit (no register, just a cairn, register was on the north summit); for descent we retraced our route and found our Dwayne Dunaway's ski pole he left up there in July (09); we took the pole and returned it to him when we got home; anyway, ascended back to camp at Boulder Pass. The next day on 09/27 we climbed Luahna from Boulder Creek basin (skirting Clark on West side; had already climbed Clark with Julie Brugger) and hiked out to car at TH; bumper crop of blueberries delayed our descent and we hiked out last 4 miles by headlamp; there were goats on slopes below Clark, on traverse to / from Luahna.
