Ascent Trip Report

After failing to bag this peak on my first try (see previous trip report for alternate route and details) I finally returned to complete it.

Starting at Eaton Canyon Natural Area I headed to the Mount Wilson Toll Road taking a right at the cougar warning sign.

When you meet the Mount Wilson Toll Road you'll notice the trail widens. Keep an eye and an ear out for cyclists for pretty much the rest of the trip.

When you reach the Henninger Flats, the Mount Wilson Toll Road continues up to the right by a water fountain and in the exact opposite direction of the museum.

Follow this for another 3.7 miles till you reach a hairpin turn that makes a V-shape with a big circular structure. Most of the way up this is shaded. Water tank base maybe? It reminds me of a giant spool for string.

From here, go up past the giant spool down the middle of the V, leaving the Mount Wilson Toll Road. .42 miles after leaving the Mount Wilson Toll Road you'll reach the summit. The "trail" from here is an unmaintained trail meets some bushwhacking. Sometimes its easy to follow and other times you're using both arms and legs to climb over a rock and looking left or right for the next best possible route. As long as you don't loose elevation quickly and you stay on the ridge, you'll get to the summit just fine. This part can be very tough on a hot day like both days I tried it. Take the shade breaks as much as possible because the summit has none.
There are 2 false summits bumps when approaching from this direction. The 3rd bump is the summit. There is a green survey marker and a canister with notebooks to sign your name.

I returned to the TH the exact way I came up.

Animals Spotted:
3 Mule Deer, 1 was a fawn

My 26th "new" (not done by me before) peak if the year 2014.
11th Sierra Club Lower Peak Section summit.

26/50 new mountains for 2014.
