Ascent Trip ReportWe parked at the Beech Mtn chamber of commerce visitor center. After picking up a hiking/biking trail map, we headed up the adjacent kiddie sledding hill and then continued up on asphalt roads past Emerald Mtn Land of Oz and Emerald Outback signs. Probably 1/4 mile later we veered from the Outback signs and continued gently uphill on the Land of Oz Road. Eventually we reached the top end of a ski lift and a newish large observation deck.
Beyond the deck we could see a knob rising in the near distance which we took to be our objective. In between and encircling, however, lay the Land of Oz and its fences and locked gates. We had a friendly chat with the property manager, but alas the gates remained locked and we headed back down, peakless.
