Ascent Trip ReportAfter a minor diversion to Odell Butte, we visit Crater Lake national park. As well as impressive scenery and a crater lake 5 miles across it has this P3k summit. From the well marked parking lot (N42.92910 W122.03004, 2342m) the excellent easy-graded trail makes this an easy summit. It has a lookout tower with an outcrop immediately to its south (N42.92285 W122.01628, USGS benchmark and reference marker: trig appears to have been removed). Outcrop immediately N of lookout at N42.92295 W122.01630 looks slightly lower. Nice view of Lake from summit, view also includes Thielsen and distant hazy Mount Shasta, tomorrow's target.
We're up in 39mins and after a few mins at the summit we run back down in 19 mins, round trip 1h05 for the 4.4 mi 430m ascent.
We continue south to make an afternoon ascent of Mount Eddy.
