Ascent Trip Report

First 700m a steep grade on loose gravel. Last water at 400m. 700 to 1100m had the choice of walking up a snowfield or boulders strewn with ash and tephra. At 1100 rope up and put on the snow shoes. Not very steep but steady grade on snow covered glacier to 1800m, where the path enters the crater and the going is flat for a km or so. Up a steep grade to 1890 or so, and switch to crampons. Ad hoc route creation to navigate the late season crevasses. Nothing too wide but definitely enough to worry about. Weave through the crevasses to 2050, and another snow field to the summit at 2110. I should have brought sunglasses and sunscreen, those are not things you want to forget in the car.

Cloud top was at about 1500m on the way up, 1200m on the way down. In the cloud was nice and cool but right above clouds on the way down was downright hot. Summit had cool breeze, temp probably high 30s.
