Ascent Trip Report

Peak 1 - Our week of climbing sarted with a flight to Dubrovnik where we immediately set off for Lake Plav in Montenegro. After spending the night at the lakeside hotel we drove the short distance to Vusanje. It was a clear day as we started off but the threat of rain was ever present. We had picked one of the wettest years in recent history to be climbing in the Balkans with floods and mud slides reported across most of the region. The hike along the lower tracks and higher trails were fairly well marked, but we were glad of our GPS tracking as in some places the snow covered the trails completely. The final few hundred meters were still covered in snow, so we put on our crampons and kicked our way to Kolata’s summit. Next up - Kosovo.
