Ascent Trip Report

The last time I'd been at Convict Lake was in 1970 with only a dirt road leading in. This time, well, times have changed. We got a late start (after eight a.m. I believe) and headed up the drainage to the hanging valley above. There was little or no snow anywhere, just a few minor patches. The tarn used in the Secor directions was already nearly gone. The route up from there is a steep, loose slope. I tried moving onto the rocks for better footing, but they led to a false summit and then began to be more class 4 than class 3, so I gave it up and went back to the loose chute and on to the summit. My GPS batteries died enroute, so no track is available.
