Ascent Trip Report

Went up the Meysan Lakes Trail to the Grass Lake sign (at 4.4 mi.), then turned left and headed toward the sandy slope below the mountain. There is a vague trail for awhile, then some cairns going to the left of Grass Lake. The small stream could easily be crossed on rocks, then headed for a small snow patch in the gully. There were obvious signs of foot traffic heading towards the scree slope, I stayed to the left on the rocks all the way until around the corner to the left, when the chute becomes obvious. There were numerous rocks falls making lots of noise and dust farther to the right, which kept my attention! I switched to rocks in the middle, then on the right side, never did have to go up the soft sand/scree, so didn't have to do the step up, slide down routine. Once I reached the top of the chute, there was a short scramble up to the summit plateau. From there I headed towards the highest looking peak on the left, should have gone farther to the right as the summit is at the far end of the summit ridge. Best to go just to the left of a group of slanting vertical rocks and then on to the far end to the summit. Coming down that is the route I took, but then went too far to the south on the plateau and had to backtrack to get in the chute to go down. It looks like many have gone down on the left but that would miss the chute and turn into a steep rocky cliff descent! The descent was a quick plunge stepping route down the scree, then a hurried trip down the trail to beat the threatening rain, which was announced by lots of thunder, but didn't see any lightening! Starting time was 9:00 am, returned to TH at 5:44, with a leisurely break on top, and taking lots of pictures on the way down, after I realized that the rain wasn't happening.
