Ascent of Epidote Peak on 2014-06-09
|Date:||Monday, June 9, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||10964 ft / 3341 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a bonus peak during a dayhike to Camiaca Peak. From Virginia Lakes trailhead, I hiked on trail and snow to near the outlet of Summit Lake, thenleft the trail and hiked up to the saddle just west of Epidote Peak. The west side of this rocky pinnacle looked fairly difficult so, with my ice axe, I worked my way around the north side on steep snow to the NE side. Here I found a small class 3 chute that led to easier terrain to climb to the summit. Added an additional 300 ft of gain and about 1/3 of a mile for the Camiaca climb, which I did next by following the east ridge to the summit.
