Ascent Trip Report

Slept in car the night before (January 1st). Woke up at 5:00 am to start climb. Followed snow trails up to base of mountain. We switched between using snowshoes and crampons repeatedly as the snow conditions fluctuated between soft and wet and hard and icy. We had beautiful clear conditions but it was very windy on the summit. We approached the crater rim but did not traverse to the true summit. We decided to turn back at this point because I had a cold which slowed me significantly. We kept our distance from the rim due to cornice calving danger.
