Ascent Trip Report

Saturday June 7th we started the day at the Seward Mountain Trail head parking lot. The lot was full so we had to park out by the main sign. We started on the Ward Brook trail at 8:33am and made out way to Blueberry lean-to. When we got to the Blueberry lean-to we set up camp and left our heavy packs. The mosquitos were terrible. We made our way up the Ward Brook trail to Seward. The trail is marked by a small cairn right past the first stream in the road in-between Blueberry Lean-to and Ward Brook Lean-to. The climb up Seward was very wet and muddy. There were roots everywhere and the trees have almost overgrown the trail in some sections. We made it to the top of Seward at 1:16pm. Seward has a wooded peak that does not have many views. We then continued on over to Donaldson and arrived at 2:18pm and had lunch. Donaldson has better views, but most are still obstructed. You can see the Santanoni range as well as Marcy and Algonquin. We continued on to Emmons and arrived at 3:31pm. Emmons has the best views of the three peaks. We turned back and went over Donaldson (4:25pm) and Seward (5:22). We made it back to the campsite at 7:44 pm.
The next day we left the campsite at 6:44am and continued down the road past the Ward Brook lean-to to find the Seymour Mountain trial which is also marked by a small cairn. We made our way up to the top of Seymour and arrived at 8:49am. We took some pictures. This peak is also wooded but you can find some decent views of the Santanoni range if you walk out of the trees. On the way down we stopped by a nice overlook that shows the Seward, Donaldson, and Emmons. We made it back to the campsite by 11:00am and broke camp. We hiked out to the truck arriving at 12:41pm.
