Ascent Trip Report

Left the trailhead at 5:30am to the flutter of quail wings in the first light. Temperatures in the upper forties, no wind and no clouds in the morning sky, chilly. Up the Chorro Grande Canyon as the temperatures rose. Up 3000 feet in 5 miles to Pine Mountain Road, past Chumash memories in a lite south, southwest wind. On Reyes Peak it was hot, upper nineties, low one hundred degrees. Chapped lips and a dry mouth blew cross the Cayama badlands as I backtracked my steps. Down the Charro Grande to a total of 17 miles and 3500 feet of elevation gain. A tough day...
