Ascent Trip Report

Contrary to many indicators before leaving home, road 9075 to the upper Summit Prairie trailhead was not a problem whatsoever. Benchmark shows the road as paved until nearly the end, and it is. The Gifford Pinchot NF website used that road as an example of roads in the forest that have fallen into disrepair and are now only accessible if you have high clearance and don't mind getting your vehicle scratched. I drove my old '98 4Runner because I don't mind getting it scratched, but lo and behold the overgrown road was not bad, the pavement was mostly in good shape, and I was able to easily drive the "bad" portion of the road leading to the good portion. Interestingly, some maps I looked at show road 9075 isolated from road 90. The part that shows on these maps is in very good shape, but the part of the road leading from road 90 is very driveable. We had maybe as much as 8 feet of snow or more high on the ridge, and my track reflects us winding around and through looking for passages between the tree wells. The snow was perfect consistency and we had no trouble getting to the summit.
