Ascent Trip ReportIt is sadly completely privately owned with no trails to use. One could road walk to start from a lower elevation though. If I did it again I'd start at the Mad River on Bus. US 33 and SR 540 and walk Bus. US 33 up.
Started in the lower parking lot (N40 22.216 W83 43.209). No closed gates or security to worry about. Walked the sidewalk toward and then around administration building. Between it and a warehouse is the highpoint (N40 22.216 W83 43.209). Really nice park with flagpole, bench, state historic sign, survey marker, and a brick-housed register. A couple people came by for the highpoint while I was there. There is a bit of a view to the west, even with summer leaves. Probably better views in winter. Glad I finally made it.
Completed the experience by going south to Ohio Caverns, well worth the diversion. It truly is the most colorful cavern I've ever seen. Largest in the state, and amazing also for the huge amount of small stalactites and impressive lighting. Will make the trip out to the highpoint area more than worth it.
