Ascent Trip Report

We followed Ken Jones' direction. I did not see any signage noting county road 1475, just the Forest Service road 52. Once we turned onto 5226 there were immediately a number of blow downs. We were able to drive over most of these in a Subaru Forester. We removed at least a half dozen trees that I didn't want to drive over. At approx 6,100 feet we met a patch of snow too deep to drive through. We backed up a short ways to what looked like a small rock quarry and then began walking. There were numerous snowfields but nothing too bad. We were passed by about six motor cycles on our way up. They seemed to be having good time in the snow. It was approximately 3.5 miles to the top. The last quarter mile of so was in deeper snow. There was probably 3-4 feet of snow at the very top. We climbed up to the top of the locked tower and enjoyed the expansive views from the top. It was a great hike but I'd probably recommend waiting until later in the season than we did.
