Ascent Trip Report

Started at 3:00 am from Convict Lake Campground with alpine skis and boots in my pack. After hiking along the East shore of the lake I went up the brushy hillside leading to the rocky terrain below the Morrison Col. The brush wasn't too bad nor was it too difficult to go through the Aspen trees. I did look the evening before to scope out a relatively clear path from the South inlet and it worked out pretty well. I reached snow at about 9500 feet and climbed with crampons up to the col then a little way further up the East face to about 11000 feet until the snow coverage was not adequate for skiing. I left the skis there, climbed to the top and back then skied down at about 11:30. The conditions were just about ideal with beautiful spring corn, softened up just a bit but not yet slushy. Checkout time at the campground is 1:00 and I was slightly late but it was no big deal since checkin is at 2:00.
