Ascent Trip Report

We took highway Nn northeast of Rocky Falls. We found a road gravel road turn off (I think the Google Earth location was at 37.108536,91.201931). We took the road until it crossed a creek. We backed up and headed back north on hwy Nn. We found what looked like a trail headed toward Thorny Mtn. We parked at (37.113164, 91.198225) and tried to follow the trail. The trail quickly disappeared so we decided to bushwack along the ridge. We found a nice eastern collard lizard along the way. We found a road along the ridge near (37.111022,91188203). The road headed in the direction of the summit, however it headed back down hill. We saw a house along with what looked like a shooting range and some irrigation equipment. None of the roads in the area seemed to head in the direction we wanted to go so we started bushwacking up the hill again. We came to another road that lead us to the summit. The road was very wet and slippery. The summit looked it was on a flat rocky area near the road.
We followed the road back to the truck. Along the way we saw the same gate mentioned in Marshall Stewart’s trip report from 2103. It said no trespassing and mentioned video surveillance. Since we were on our way out, we kept following the road. We came to the same creek crossing that at our first road turnoff. We took off our shoes and socks and waded across. Just before we got back to hwy Nn, a truck came pulling in and rolled down the window when they saw us. The lady was friendly but the man eventually said that we were not supposed to be up there. We said we weren’t and went on our way.
