Ascent Trip ReportDrove Vaughn Road in from Veneta. Parked in the gravel lot on the north side of Vaughn Road. There were train cars around the crossing for the South Side Road leading up the hill and I didn't want to risk getting my vehicle stuck on the wrong side if one of them moved.
This was my first ascent of a summit using my mountain bike. Dennis Poulin's directions are spot on. The main road past the gate is gravel and made it difficult sometimes to get traction. I followed the road to the saddle and then went left. A few more minutes of riding got me to where I had to leave the bike behind and walk the last few hundred feet down an unmaintained road. there are no views save for the trees and marking tape dangling from their branches. The ride back down was jarring and much slower than I would have liked.
