|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
|Point Reached:||Vesuvius - Crater Rim|
| Elevation:||3871 ft / 1179 m|
| Remaining Elevation:||332 ft / 102 m (8% left to go)|
Ascent Trip ReportMade it up to the crater rim but not to the true summit because our tour leader failed to deliver on his explicit promise, didn't make the necessary arrangements and left inadequate time for us to rectify this.
Nevertheless a fascinating climb with close up views of the effects of volcanism and stunning views over the surrounding area. To reach the highest point on the mountain one needs to hire a local guide from the kiosk at the top of the parking area, otherwise progress beyond the fenced off tourist area is not permitted.
