Ascent Trip Report

Started at the Southern AT parking location. Went with three friends for all of our first overnight backpacking trip. Great weather as we started. There aren't very many lookouts and open peaks on the way up the AT at this point. There is one location at Little Pond Mountain that has a nice little camping setup with a bit of a lookout to the East. We passed a solo through hiker heading South. We summited on day 2 but unfortunately it was overcast and a little rainy. The fire tower has amazing views none the less. The trip back was a cruise down the West Ridge Trail. There is a cool little area where it looks as if a micro blast hit or a fire cleared out a football field sized area. Not very much water on the West Ridge trail or on the AT once you past a small stream after the first peak until you reach near the summit. Bald mountain (about 1 mile left in the West Ridge Trail) had a great camping area towards the top, though there are no views up there. Great first trip
