Ascent Trip ReportMt. Cabot York Pond, Bunnell Notch, Kilkenny Ridge The road to the parking is very icy this morning – temperature is around 25 degrees. Mom, Dad and I headed up the York Pond trail at 9:05 am. The first part of the trail doesn’t have any ice or snow and isn’t too steep so we made some good time. Mom almost fell through the ice on one of the brook crossings. We thought the ice was a bit thicker than it actually was! As we made our way up the Bunnell Notch trail there was much more ice so we put our micro-spikes on which helped a lot. It was funny because sometimes there was ice and some snow and then there were sections that looked like early fall – just some leaves! The last mile or so it was pretty windy and slippery, but the micro spikes worked well. Dad and I got to the summit at 12:00, it was pretty windy with the temperature around 10 degrees so we didn’t stay very long. On the way down we stopped at the Cabot Cabin and had a nice lunch. Even with the wind was blowing pretty hard against the cabin, it gave us enough protection to enjoy our lunch. The clouds started to thin and we had some views into the valley. We met back up with Mom as we continued our trip down – we were back in the parking lot at 2:40pm. It was a bit colder than we had expected but it was a very good hike.
