Ascent Trip ReportWildcat D and Wildcat Mtn. Today we are going to hike up the ski trails of Wildcat Mountain to visit Wildcat D and Wildcat. In the parking lot it is low clouds, windy and raw! But there is a group returning to their tour bus and they had just come off the lifts and said the peak is out of the clouds and beautiful temps on the summit. That gives us something to look forward to and at 10:00am, Mom, Dad and I start heading up the ski trails. I don’t know which trails we walked, but they were marked ‘easy’ for the skiers. But going up they didn’t seem that easy, they just kept going up and up, the back of my legs were really getting soar. This was a very interesting hike, because we did indeed hike ‘through’ the clouds! As we got higher, the cloud cover got thinner until we actually climbed right though them and there was nothing but beautiful blue sky above and clouds below us! We got to the gondola at 11:35am. It was pretty busy with all the people taking the easy way to the top! We had lunch there while enjoying the views and then headed to the platform at the top of Wildcat D. Dad and I headed to Wildcat at noon, mom decided she would wait by the ski lift. We got to Wildcat at 1pm and we went just past to the view spot where you could enjoy the views across the valley over at the Carters. It was interesting to watch the lower clouds being blown through the notch. We enjoyed the views for awhile then made room as quite a few more hikers joined the area. We got back to the ski lifts at 2:25pm. It is still gorgeous here on the summits! Going down these ski trails are a lot easier to go down than up, that is for sure. We walked back down into the clouds and got back to the car at 3:30pm, where it was still low clouds and a raw wind. So glad the summit was warm and clear!
