Ascent of Volcán Maderas in 2007-02

Climber: David Parratt

Date:February, 2007
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Volcán Maderas
    Location:Nicaragua
    Elevation:4573 ft / 1393 m

Ascent Trip Report

One of two volcanic peaks on the island of Ometepe. The other, Concepion, is higher. Maderas is in a cloud forest, so even in the dry season, the trail is extremely muddy. Most of the hike is thru dense forest so views are limited. There is a lagoon at the top but visibility was poor on our visit due to fog. You may see monkeys on the trail. The muddiest hike I have ever done.
