Ascent Trip Report

I started at the 4800' pull out and began following the DPS route. What isn't mentioned in the route description is that a major wash empties across the road just to the north of the pull out. One must find and cross this wash early on to get on the north side of it to catch the ridge in the description. If you get to it higher up, you will have a deep and steep drop down and back up to deal with. I stayed at this point on the southern ridge, which led to a crappy section of very loose and unstable class 3 rock to negotiate. Once on that part, I ran out of four letter words pretty quickly and had to start making up my own! Once past this part, the going to the summit was easy. There was a fair amount of snow still in the shaded parts of the mountain, and on the return I got into a mess trying to get on the "proper" ridge, but finally came across some foot prints from the party that had been up there a week previously, and finally hit the use trail on the north ridge. From there is was easy, steep and some times loose, but otherwise a quick descent back to the car. Round trip car to car was between five and a half to five and three quarters of an hour, more or less. Time up, including route finding, was around three hours and maybe twenty minutes.
