Ascent Trip ReportTrip completed with friend Mike Kohn. This was my first attempted winter hike ever and wasn't sure what to expect. We started very late; on the trail just before 12:30pm (I'm the type to be peaking by noon or earlier). Sky was clear and sunny the entire day, temps in the low 30s; light to moderate wind. Trail conditions were slick but neither of us used microspikes or snowshoes (would have helped but it was manageable without). The trail was well packed, though we sank to our knees if we stepped on either side of the trail. Hit Panther Mountain summit at 2:30pm. Gorgeous views for miles; an excellent late winter day. Took our time on the descent, back to the car right about 5pm. In all, a successful day that could have been hindered by either the late start or the lack of winter foot gear. First winter summit in the books!
