Ascent Trip ReportI finally decided on 2/24/2014 that I was going to bag the Essex County highpoint, and I arrived at the Prospect Rd. parking area early in the morning to do just that.
I took a yellow-blazed trail called "Rachel's Trail" to the top. It was very easy, although the snow was very slick, almost like ice. I figured it wouldn't be too good for my snowshoes, so I took them off and barebooted most of the way.
Near the top, I crossed a large field, which was so reflective because of the snow that I had to face down to prevent snowblindness. When I got to the top, there was a good view of Boston and a fire tower, although the latter was closed and marked with "No Trespassing" signs. I stuck around for a few minutes and then headed back down the yellow-blazed trail for a short distance, eventually varying my route and taking the shortcut trail and a service road back down.
