Ascent Trip ReportWe started the hike at 9:10am from Upper Works trailhead. It was a bit later than I would have liked. After approximately 5.5 miles we found the herd path between a small bridge over a stream and the lean-to. We were warned about a split in the trail and that we should go right but after inspecting the right fork it appeared that it didn't go anywhere and just looped back into the left fork. The left fork seemed to be a much more obvious path but after a short distance it began to get thicker and had many spruce traps. The closer we got to the top the thicker the vegetation got until it was an all out bushwhack. Eventually we came across an obvious herd path and decided to follow it's uphill leg where we found the summit sign. On the way down we decided to follow the obvious herd path which ended up bypassing the bushwhack and dumped us right back onto the herd path we took up where the split was. Following the actual herd path down took 10-15 minutes while the bushwhack up took an hour. It certainly would have saved a lot of time and energy had we just taken the right fork. The hike out was uneventful but seemed to take forever. We made it back to the parking lot just before 6pm. |
