Ascent Trip Report

I am finding Texas an extremely unpleasant state to bag county highpoints. Out of 6 peaks on my trip so far, this was my 4th unsuccessful summit, so I am only batting a 33.3% success rate. My GPS led me to a access road located on the east side of Mount Smith, but this road was for the use of members of a private community only and I was still well over a mile from the summit. There were many mail boxes at the beginning of this road, so I probably could have driven in and no one would have cared, since so many people appear to live there, but my experience in Texas so far led me to believe I would only find fenced, posted and gated properties. I decided not to waste my time. If I ever return, I will be more bold, but I was quickly losing my confidence on this trip. Texas must have an especially high crime rate or its residents are extremely paranoid compared to other states where I have done county highpoints.
