Ascent Trip Report

Ascended from Virginia Lakes Trailhead 3.3 miles up to Burro Pass at 11,120 feet. At the pass, I went directly south 1/2 mile past small snow-fed ponds to ridge at the edge of Lundy Canyon at the base of a prominent red hill. From here, climbed west following use trails over the red hill, and descended slightly before following the ridgeline westward towards a subpeak of Excelsior. From here, route is obvious, just 20 more minutes south along the ridge crest and onto the summit. Great views of Mono Lake, the Virginia Lakes Canyon, Dunderberg and the granite peaks of Northern Yosemite. My highest peak to date by almost 1000 feet.
