Ascent Trip Report2-peak day in the ABDSP (San Ysidro + Peak 6020) with Nathaniel. Total stats - 7.1 miles + 2,347 elevation gain.
Parked at the Cherry Canyon Jeep Rd TH just near the ABDSP boarder sign. Meant to follow the HPS Route 2 to the summit, but ended up following an old (and ducked) jeep road to a saddle. After passing the old mine debris (cars!), we turned left towards Ysidro and side-hilled/x-countried up to the summit. It was ducked, but there was no specific route. Lots of cross country and creative route finding. Summit was easy to get to and the views were SPECTACULAR! Retraced our steps back to the saddle above Cherry Canyon and followed what was left of the jeep road up the wash towards Peak 6020 for Nate to do more SOTA work. After several false summits and PLENTY of bushwhacking, we reached the summit of Peak 6020 approx 55 minutes after leaving the saddle. Took a more direct route back to the saddle and basically hugged and side-hilled the draw until the hit the old jeep trail. Beautiufl views on 6020, but the bushwhacking and x-country was TOUGH. Went a total of 7.1 miles for approx 6 hours of hiking (total)....3:26 moving time. Nice day to be out and fantastic end to an amazing 2013 hiking and peak bagging season!
