Ascent Trip ReportHike with Nate to do SOTA work.
Parked at the Milk Ranch Road turn-off from the 79. Took Milk Ranch Road to Middle Peak Road and hiked approx 3.1 miles up to a water basin, between the Oak Glen and Middle Peak Road junction. From there, we cross countried up to the summit, approx 100 feet above us. Just followed the trail of newly planted saplings (well - they were probably planted over the summer or the previous year). I had been to the summit before - was VERY surprised at how many trees were blown over - much more bare.... but still a lot of burned trees. Slight bushwhacking, but it wasn't bad. After Nate and Drew activated the summit for SOTA, we hiked down the Oak Glen Trail to the trail junction with Middle Peak Rd and Fern Flat Fire Road (from Cuyamaca), and then back along Middle Peak Rd to the cars. Overall - a great day hiking!
