Ascent Trip Report

Parked car at 5PM and at trailhead by 5:15. Been up twice before but trail is always crowded. The late start today was perfect, only crowded for about first 15 minutes with people coming down. Reached peak in one hour with near pitch blackness. Descent between peak and saddle was a little sketchy and second guessed the correct trail a couple of times, even with my headlamp. Reminded me of the people that have to be escorted down, didn't want to be that guy.

After passing saddle, trail became more recognizable. Picked up speed but ended up slipping and received a nice souvenir on my left hand in the form of a rock gash. Also got minor cuts on right ankle and knee. I guess these can be labeled as occupational hazards from night hiking. Caught up with 3 tourists who didn't have lamps or water. I slowed my pace and walked the rest of the way down with them, giving one of them my lamp while I used my phone as a light source. Was a great feeling being the last one up on the peak.
