Ascent Trip Report

We started at 8:30am from the Chapel Pond trailhead and headed up the Ridge Trail. Passing the Giant Washbowl we continued up the Giant Mountain Trail to the intersection with an option to continue a short distance to the Giant summit or turn and head toward Rocky Peak Ridge. Since Shanon and I had already done Giant and we were getting a late start we decided to head for Rocky Peak Ridge first. It was a steep descent and I remember thinking it was going to be a rough hike back up to Giant on the way back. We made it to the summit of Rocky and after spending a few minutes enjoying the views we decided to get out of the wind and start the return trip. The descent and the climb back up to Giant were much quicker and easier than I had originally expected. Once back at the junction, we headed for the summit of Giant. There were foot steps that stopped at the false summit which made me wonder if they knew that wasn't the true summit. Again we spent a few minutes, enjoying the views before heading down. Due to some gear issues, we were a little slower and ended up coming down the last 1.7 or so miles in the dark. We made it back to the trailhead at 7:20pm.
