Ascent Trip ReportWe hiked in to the campsite behind the Boquet lean-to on Friday night. Early Saturday morning 7 out of our group of 10 headed out across the frozen river and one other stream crossing that was more than a step or two. Just passed where the trail ducks back into the woods on the slide we put on microspikes which would be the only traction we would use. Passing the trail junction, we made it to the summit of Dix. Maps and trip reports I read made it seem like the herd path to Hough was after the Beckhorn turned out to be incorrect. After exploring the yellow trail below the Beckhorn twice and some true bushwacking through the thick pines to the left and below the Beckhorn. Most of the group turned back before we finally found the herd path on the left hand side just before the Beckhorn. Two of us continued on toward Hough. At one of the overlooks on the way to Hough, one more person decided to turn due to a past knee injury that was acting up. I was the only person in our group to continue on to the summit of Hough. The closer to Hough I got the deeper the snow would get and the harder the trail was to follow. Many times there seemed to be branches in the herd path but they seemed to all go to the same place. After reaching the summit I took a quick look at the view and turned back to meet the rest of the group at camp. Everyone warmed up, ate a hot lunch/dinner, and packed up to hike out Saturday night. |
