Mini – Presi (Mtns: Jefferson, Washington, Monroe, Eisenhower. Minor Peaks: Mt. Clay, Monroe West, Mt. Franklin)

Today is gonna be a big day, me and Dad are doing what he is calling a Mini-Presidential Traverse. Mom let us off at the Ridge of the Caps Trail. It is a bit colder than I thought it would be, only 45 degrees. I hope I packed enough. The weather in the valley is gorgeous blue sky, but the peaks are still in the clouds.

I love the scrambling that we had to do to get to the summit of Jefferson, but we didn’t stay long at all. The clouds have actually thickened and the wind is 20mph, so a quick picture and we head down to get out of the wind. Luckily Dad has an extra coat that he let me use! As we descended off of Jefferson along the Gulfslide trail, we got low enough to come out of the clouds. Bu then the wind would blow and we would be back in them!

Dad asked whether I wanted to go ‘over’ or ‘around’ Clay. But he also “suggested” we hit all the peaks as we went by them. So we went up and over Mt. Clay, the summit is clear and we can see over to Jefferson and Washington, but they are both still hidden in the clouds. I didn’t really stop here, I’m thinking of getting some hotdogs when we get to Mt. Washington!

Made Washington and although it is a bit odd to be able to go inside and get something warm to eat on the top of a mountain, it certainly felt good today! The clouds are thinning and we can ‘sorta’ see from the summit. It is VERY busy up here today, there is a LINE to take a picture at the summit sign. That certainly doesn’t happen on many summits here in the Northeast! After enjoying hotdogs and some chocolate milk, Dad and I headed down the Crawford Path toward Mt. Monroe.

The Crawford Path between Mt. Washington and Mt. Monroe was very busy. The clouds are pretty much gone except for the very summit of Washington. But we got good views the whole way as we headed south. From the summit of Monroe we had very good views and the sun is actually getting warm enough that I took off my extra coat!

Summit of Eisenhower
Wow what a long day! Although much of the hike from Monroe to Eisenhower is ‘downhill’, I am certainly feeling today’s long hike! The climb up Eisenhower was pretty tough so me and Dad took a nice break on top. The wind has pretty much died down and we can see clearly all the way back to Jefferson where we started earlier this morning. It turned out to be a very pretty day to walk along the ridge of these presidentials!

Done! What a great (if not long) day. It started as a beautiful day in the valley, then windy and socked in on Jefferson, great to get warm food on top of Washington, then the sun was warm and no clouds on Eisenhower.
