Ascent Trip ReportTaxi can driver told us that this was actually the highest place on the island and certainly the internet propaganda that the tourist get agree BUT the official USGS map and all official internet sources confirm that Crown Mountain is the higher peak. Still, there is some prominence from this second high peak on the island and the views although covered in tourists from the cruise ships is anticlimactic are well, admittedly far better than the views from Crown Mountain.
The view down on Magens Bay is really quite remarkable and if you like gift shops there is certainly that there! The taxi cab driver allowed me to jump out and hike to the top along the tourist road for the last bit so it was not a complete drive up for me which I appreciated. The true peak is over at the multiple radio towers not at the lower level where the good views are. Enjoy the views then hike up the stairs and up and over to the towers if you want to peak bag too.
The hike on this is disappointing - I hate it when they make things a drive up, but I will give it a 3 out of 10 just because the views are hard to beat from the tourist gift house platform. |
