Ascent Trip ReportWe took a taxi from our resort (Sugar Bay) over on the east end of the island and then had the driver drop us off at the Nisky Center. We walked down to get to the Bay (I wanted to touch water to start) but ran into too many fenced industrial tracks but found a place around 4 feet above sea level. That was our TH for vertical gain then we hiked back up to main drag intersection and took the advice of the taxi driver to walk up Crown Mountain Rd facing traffic and being very diligent to cars and trucks.
Karen and I found the bottom of the "urban hike" a bit challenging in trying to keep in the concrete curb and make sure we gave vehicles plenty of room to pass. Traffic thins out some as you go higher and there is more residential zoning. It was humid and it rained on us briefly. We were disappointed when we reached a construction effort where we were forced to detour very close to the top. Some landscapers in the same dilemma let us ride in the pickup back with all the chainsaws, gasoline, mowers, machetes and other fun cutting equipment as they detoured the blockage. We got out and re-hiked the vertical.
The top has a lot of towers including WGOD a religious tower that had a great view over the bays below. The very top is a bunch of towers seemingly around ever corner some gates closed and some closed with locks and barb wire.
We hiked down the north side of the mountain and stopped at a Grocery Store and called for the taxi there. The north side of the mountain had roads with nice homes to walk by and far less traffic.
My victory was to get this bagged after having missed it last trip with medical issues.
