Ascent Trip ReportHard to spot Nugent Canyon (dirt) road at night from the highway, which is when I got there. Ended up driving a dirt road I did spot that turned into 4WD. So I gave up and camped for the night. The Nugent Canyon Road turn off from the hwy is unsigned and is 0.1 mile north of the 39 mile marker sign. It's in good condition and is drivable to the locked gate 2 miles up the road.
A half-mile west of the gate was an unoccupied trailer that appears to be lived in at various times of the year. Probably by ranch hands tending cattle. I would recommend an approach to Tohakum using the 4WD dirt road to the south that leads to a spring. It may avoid this fenced inholding.
I climbed a ridge on the north side of Nugent Canyon and followed it west to the main ridge several hundred feet north of the summit. It was a brushy route with several sections of tedious loose scree. Much nicer on the main ridge.
After Tohakum, I continued south along the ridge to Pyramid benchmark bypassing below a steep rock formation on the east side. From the summit of Pyramid, I descended east back into Nugent Canyon via the main east ridge. Worked well but is also brushy.
