Ascent Trip Report

Peak #2 on a 2-peak day
Hiked with Christine and Nate.

Started at the TH off the 38, just north of Onyx summit. Drove approx 1.25 miles to the TH - nice dirt road.

Followed the traiditional trail to the peak - well marked 4.9 miles up with approx 2500 feet of gain. Very nice trail - rocky in a few places and slightly steep, but not bad. We came across a few trail junctions with the National Recreation Trail, but I think this is a trail system around Big Bear? I'll have to look more into that. Once we were past the final junction, it was a bit more climbing and then a long flat approach to the summit on the west end of the rige. Wide summit area - great views of Gorgonio and the Big Bear area. Also, nice desert views. Spent approx 30 minutes on the summit while Nate did his SOTA work. All morse code for these contacts..... Approx 2.5 hours up and 2 hours down. 9.9 miles RT and a great day in the mountains. Very easy trail to follow and BEAUTIFUL with the fall colors and fall season in the mountains!

Peak #82 on the HPS list for me! YEA!
