Ascent Trip Report

After climbing Monitor yesterday I decided that I wanted to climb The Nose by an easier variation free solo. I believe the crux was the first pitch which I would call 5.6. My friend Shannon hiked up the gully on the side of Monitor with my dog Blanca. The entire route only took about 30 minutes and I was on the summit at about 1pm. It was exhilarating and felt incredible to climb it free solo. I met my friend and dog on the summit and ate some lunch than hiked down the gully back to the car. More than half way down I was walking holding Blanca on her leash while stepping on very loose rock. As I stepped on this rock Blanca jumped and pulled me off my feet. To catch my fall I put my arm out behind me and cut it somewhat deep on a sharp rock. After free soloing a multi pitch rock route I cant believe I got hurt on the walk off! But over all it was a great climb and I felt really accomplished.
