Ascent Trip Report

Took the Alpibahn up at 8:15am, then followed the path to Unterst See and up to the Ijes tunnel (no headlamp needed, there are occasional openings to the outside that let in light). Turns out I was at Ijes on the day they heard the sheep down, so I watched several hundred sheep climb funnel themselves down a steep ravine.

Followed the standard route up to the lake at 2148m, then up the ridge. This climb was muddy, slippery, and frustrating.
When I got to the top of the Schwarzhorn ridge and looked in the Schafalpi valley, I thought there was no way I would be able to climb it.

Went down into the valley to traverse across to the saddle between Schwarzhorn and Grauspitz, but that rock was miserable and I was high up the valley where it was steep.

I went all the way down into the valley, and climbed directly up to the ridge and it was much, much easier. The scree was large rocks that were more or less stable and could be walked up pretty easy.

Spent 30 minutes on the summit, then had to head back to catch the last Alpibahn lift back down.
