Ascent Trip ReportCoHP - LaPORTE COUNTY, INDIANA
This was the second stop of a 3-county day in northern Indiana. Arriving from my first stop in St. Joseph County, Indiana, I drove east along CR 600N to the crest in the road. I parked on the right side just before I arrived at 1306 CR 600N.
The trip was a total bushwhack. I entered the woods and followed my GPS to Contour 1, the easternmost of the pair of candidates. This was a very nondescript summit. I wandered around the area but did not find BM Galena or any reference marks.
Satisfied that I had visited the high ground of this contour, I then trended west to reach Contour 2. Along the way, I ran into a new house in the woods. I took the gravel drive back to CR 600N. I then walked west along the road until my GPS told me that Contour 2 was due north. At that point, I then bushwhacked back into the woods, traveling due north to the area of the new house. I am not certain whether the new home now occupies the contour’s high ground, but that appears to be the case. I did not detect anyone being home, so I wandered the area a bit to be satisfied that I could not see any higher ground to visit. I called the trip done; I hiked the driveway back to CR 600N and my truck.
